Freestyle skier Eileen Gu nabbed silver yesterday at the freeski big air event in Milan’s Winter Olympics. It’s the 22-year-old’s fifth Olympic medal.
American-born Gu, who has competed for China since 2019, won gold at the 2022 Beijing Olympics. She narrowly missed another gold medal this year, coming in second to Megan Oldham, who is competing for Canada.
Gu’s performance in the second run of the freeski big air event was middling, Yahoo Sports said, but “spectacular” in the third.
Gu told The Associated Press that “‘Five-time Olympic medalist’ kind of has a nice ring to it,” and that she sees yet another medal — regardless of whether it’s gold — as a win, not a loss.
