The Bellevue City Council unanimously elected Mo Malakoutian as mayor and Dave Hamilton deputy mayor at their meeting on Tuesday.
Malakoutian and Hamilton will serve in these roles for the next two years.
Malakoutian, still in his first term, succeeds Councilmember Lynne Robinson, who served as mayor the past six years.
Malakoutian immigrated to Washington from Iran in 2008 to earn a doctorate in structural engineering at the University of Washington. He moved to Bellevue in 2013.
