The Kent City Council unanimously re-elected Satwinder Kaur as council president on Jan. 6, extending her leadership of the seven-member body for another two years as newly elected Councilmember Sharn Shoker was sworn in.
Kaur, who is beginning a new four-year term on the council, was nominated by Councilmember Bill Boyce and quickly approved by her colleagues. She will continue to serve as the council’s primary spokesperson and work closely with Mayor Dana Ralph.
Shoker took the oath of office that same night and attended her first council meeting. Mayor Ralph and returning Councilmember Toni Troutner were also sworn in during the ceremony, with Judge Michael Frans administering the oaths.
