Port of Seattle Commissioner Toshiko Hasegawa announced her campaign for King County Council, District 2 today.
“I’m running to make King County more affordable and livable for working families,” Hasegawa said. “That means expanding access to childcare, lowering transportation costs, protecting housing stability, and making sure public systems actually work for the people who rely on them. I’ve spent my career delivering results, and I’m ready to do that work on the County Council.”
A fourth-generation Japanese American, Hasegawa has served for more than four years on the Port of Seattle Commission including as president, Last year she was re-elected countywide with 98.46% of the vote.
Hasegawa also serves on the transition teams for newly elected Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson and King County Executive Girmay Zahilay.
She has two young children who she is raising in the same home her grandparents and parents lived in before her. Her grandparents were forcibly removed from their home and incarcerated in American concentration camps during World War II.
King County Council District 2 encompasses the University District, Laurelhurst, Ravenna, Eastlake, Capitol Hill, the Central District, South Seattle, Skyway, and the Allentown neighborhood of Tukwila.
