A handwritten and signed essay that Bruce Lee penned as a high school student in Hong Kong was auctioned off on Oct. 27 for $8,319.

The essay, written in the late 1950s, is about the history of aviation. It’s one of the first known examples of Lee’s signature and handwriting. It shows the martial arts legend’s attempts to master the English language with multiple scratch-outs and penned-in corrections.

Membership cards from Lee’s first martial arts school in Seattle were put up for auction, but did not sell. It is available on natedsanders.com.
