Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto threw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the game between the Seattle Mariners and the New York Yankees at Safeco Field on Aug. 22.
Born in Hiroshima, Japan, Morimoto trained in a sushi restaurant before moving to the United States in 1985 at the age of 30. His unique fusion cuisine takes advantage of Japanese color combinations and aromas and uses Chinese spices and simple Italian ingredients, while maintaining a refined French style of presentation. Morimoto owns restaurants in Philadelphia and New York City.
