Seattle’s Mayor Ed Murray, joined by City Councilmembers and community leaders, signed a proclamation on June 16, to rename International Children’s Park in honor of the late community advocate Donnie Chin.
The park, at 700 S. Lane St., was renamed Donnie Chin International Children’s Park. Chin was instrumental in the founding and building of the park in 1981.
A first responder and neighborhood hero, Chin was shot and killed last July. His murder remains unsolved.

“We are doing everything in the power of the city to try to bring those who killed Donnie to justice,” said Murray.
Last year, Murray set up a task force to examine safety in the neighborhood. Murray’s spokesman said the task force is finalizing its recommendations.
