Karen Bryant has announced that this season will be her last one as president and CEO of the Seattle Storm.
Bryant, who is half Filipino and half white, has been involved with professional women’s basketball for more than 18 years. She was hired by the Ackerley family and the Seattle Supersonics in 1999 to help bring a WNBA expansion team to Seattle. After the Sonics departed for Oklahoma, Bryant was named president and CEO by the new ownership group. Under her guidance, the Storm won the WNBA Championship in 2004 and 2010.
“I’m so deeply grateful for what you’ve helped me and the Storm achieve over the years,” said Bryant. “You’ve been part of my journey thus far and many of you will continue to be a part of whatever comes next for me.”
The Seattle Storm will celebrate their 15th season this summer, which also marks the 10-year anniversary of the team’s first title in 2014. (end)
