Rep. Mike Honda (D-CA17) and Daphne Kwok, vice president of Multicultural Markets & Engagement for Asian Audiences at AARP, were honored by the Japanese American Citizens League at its Gala Awards Dinner on Oct. 10.
The organization presented the “Salute to Champions” Award to Kwok, who was appointed in 2010 to head President Barack Obama’s Advisory Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders; Jonathan B. Jarvis, National Parks director; and the Toyota company. Jarvis is being honored for his commitment to preservation of sites where Japanese Americans were incarcerated during World War II and other sites important in APA history. Kwok is being honored for her decades of work in promoting diversity.
The group presented Honda, who lives in San Jose, Calif., with the JACL Congressional Award. Southwest Airlines was given the JACL Corporate Partner Award. (end)
