Beth Takekawa, executive director of the Wing Luke Asian Museum, was one of 200 guests on May 28, 2013, invited to meet President Barack Obama at the White house for a celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.
Also at the event were author Helen Zia, Asst. Secretary of the Interior Rhea Suh, Judge Denny Chin and Giant Robot’s Eric Nakamura. The program included remarks by President Obama, emcee Lisa Ling, NEA head Joan Shigekawa and the Smithsonian’s Konrad Ng, the President’s brother-in-law. According to the president’s published remarks, Obama reflected on growing up in Hawaii and Indonesia. (end)
