Seattle Parks Director of Planning Michael Shiosaki and State Sen. and Mayoral Candidate Ed Murray married on Aug. 10 at St. Mark’s Cathedral on Capitol Hill before a crowd of 250.
It was the 22nd anniversary of the first day that they met.
Murray, who spearheaded Washington’s same-sex marriage campaign, had invited many of his colleagues in the legislature to the wedding. The ceremony was attended by King County Executive Dow Constantine, former Gov. Mike Lowry, State House Speaker Frank Chopp, former State Sen. Lisa Brown, State Sen. Steve Litzlow, and State Sen. Joe Fain.
Murray was led down the aisle by two of his sisters. Shiosaki was led by his mother and father, Lily and Fred, who are both in their 80s. Fred Shiosaki is a decorated World War II veteran.
The pair decided to wait until same-sex marriage was legal in Washington before marrying as opposed to traveling to a different state. (end)
