The Puyallup Japanese American Citizens League awarded scholarships to four students in June based on the student’s scholarship, community leadership, and community service.
The $2,000 scholarships were awarded to JoAnna Yoshitomi, Stephanni Wong, Declan Morita, and Tana Tamaki.
Yoshitomi graduated from Franklin High School in 2013 and will be attending the University of Washington. She is the inaugural recipient of the Elsie Yotsuuye Taniguchi Scholarship based on her volunteer work with JACL and her leadership at Franklin.
Stephanni Wong graduated from Lakes High School and will be attending Pierce College to study art. She previously won the Puyallup Fair Junior/Senior High School Art Show award.
Declan Morita graduated from Meadowdale High School and will be attending Washington State University. Morita is the president of the Tacoma Buddhist Temple Youth Association and has helped lead five services at the temple.
Tana Tamaki graduated from Lindbergh High School. During high school, she was a member of the National Society of High School Scholars, National Honor Society, Japanese National Honor Society, and many other organizations. (end)
