Last year, the famous photo of Unjin Lee crying beside Gov. Jay Inslee was featured all over the media when results showed that he was leading the exit polls on election night.
Lee, who’s been a member Inslee’s staff since January, has a new venture.
The Mayor of Newark, New Jersey, Cory Booker, has recruited Lee to work on his U.S. Senate campaign. Booker is running in a special election this October to fill the remainder of the term of the late Sen. Frank Lautenberg. Booker is African American.
Having Lee on the team is an asset. A hard worker, Lee has developed a personal way of reaching out to voters. She sees opportunities when no one else can. She would come to the Asian Weekly’s events and network her way to connections for Inslee. She helped Inslee send out personal congratulation letters to all of the Asian Weekly’s honorees. Each year, we honor as many as 60 leaders, and Inslee’s letters delight many of them. That’s a smart strategy to spread goodwill. (end)
