Seattle City Councilmember and mayoral candidate Bruce Harrell was inducted to the Pacific Northwest Football Hall of Fame on May 10 for his time as a linebacker for the University of Washington Huskies football team.
Harrell accepted a football scholarship to play at the University of Washington from 1976 to 1979. In 1979, Harrell received the National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete Award and was named to the 1st Team Academic All-American, All-Pac 10 1st Team, and the Husky defensive player of the year. He is the 9th leading tackler in UW history.
Despite interest from NFL teams and an invitation to the Senior Bowl, a football game that acts as an audition for professional teams, Harrell went on to pursue a career in law and civil service. (end)
