Gov. Jay Inslee attended a Cinco de Mayo reception last Friday at the Columbia Tower Club, and he opened his speech with a joke. Everyone laughed.
Inslee said he met a beautiful blond in a Spanish class in high school.
“If you go out with me, someday, I will take you to a Cinco De Mayo reception,” he said.
That girl is now his wife, Trudi. She was present at the event, but not like how you’d think. The first lady, who was casually dressed, was busy taking pictures of her husband with dignitaries. She carried a camera and was not a part of any of the photos.
May I suggest, governor, that your joke instead go like this:
“If you go out with me, someday, I will make you a photographer for the governor at a Cinco de Mayo reception.”
Trudi Inslee is a people person. She would do anything to help her husband, including being a photographer.
I don’t know whose idea it was that she should bring a camera to accompany Inslee. The goal might have been to save money, rather than paying someone else to do it.
Washington is not a small state, with over six million citizens. Being Washington’s first lady, she has set another standard — not only for other states’ first ladies, but also for countries like France and China, whose first ladies only know about making themselves pretty. (end)
