
Sharon Maeda
Sharon Maeda has been named executive director of a new nonprofit, 21 PROGRESS, based in Seattle.
Founded by the UFCW Local 21, the largest private sector union in Washington state, 21 PROGRESS’ mission is to promote equity and justice through providing opportunities for leadership development, civic engagement, and popular education to those typically left out of leadership opportunities.
21 PROGRESS programs include a $250,000 lending program to assist low-income Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) applicants, hosting free tax preparation workshops in multiple languages, and hosting leadership training programs.
Sharon Maeda has over 35 years of experience managing and coaching nonprofit organizations and departments of larger institutions. She has been executive director of the Pacifica Radio network in Los Angeles, appointed by President Clinton as Dep. Assistant Secretary of HUD under Secretary Henry Cisneros, and has served as Dep. General Secretary of the Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church in New York. (end)
