The Northwest Museum of Legends and Lore is denouncing the Universe Within “Bodies” exhibit scheduled for an exhibit at the Puyallup Fair, citing the exhibit’s use of Chinese cadavers as a violation of human rights, desecration, and culturally offensive. Countries and cities, including Seattle, have banned the display of cadavers and human remains without documentation to show origin and consent from the deceased.
Premier Exhibitions, which owns the marketing rights for the Universe Within exhibit, has already been banned from Seattle. The directors of the Northwest Museum of Legends and Lore believe that the exhibit at the Puyallup Fairgrounds is culturally offensive on the grounds that the site of the fairgrounds served as the former “Camp Harmony,” a 7,000-person detainee camp for Asians during World War II in 1942.
