4Culture, King County’s cultural services agency, awarded $6000 to the Greater Seattle Organization of Chinese Americans (OCA) and its affiliate, the Greater Seattle Chinese American Historical Society, to write and publish the history of Chinese in Washington State. The publication will be prepared by Doug and Art Chin, and will be the first book published on the social history of the Chinese in Seattle. The society previously received a $20,000 grant from the City of Seattle’s Department of Neighborhoods to establish local Chinese American history. With the money, the society produced an exhibit on a timeline of the Chinese American legacy in Washington state.
There will soon be a website on the Chinese in Washington state, which will cover subjects like the history, social institutions, culture, sports and entertainment, politics, commerce, personalities, and media. (end)
