Sen. Steve Hobbs
When Sen. Hobbs first announced his candidacy for the Congress, the Asian community gave him a cold shoulder. One reason is that there were as many as seven candidates fighting for the seat initially.
On June 23, the Seattle Times endorsed state senator Steve Hobbs, of Caucasian and Japanese descent, for the 1st Congressional District seat that formerly belonged to Congressman Jay Inslee. On July 26, the Asian community will organize a fundraising event for Hobbs at Vera and Joey Ing’s home at 5:30 p.m. If elected, Hobbs will be the first Asian American congressman in Washington state.
