This year, no Taiwanese officials showed up at the parade, even though they were invited. It seems that Andy Chin, the new director general of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, is taking a different approach from his predecessor, Daniel Liao.
Whenever Chinese officials are present at the same community event, Chin declines to appear and sends no representatives either.
Could it be because that the organizers had specifically stated that both Chinese and Taiwanese officials could not display their own flags to antagonize each other? Or is Chin’s new policy to just avoid Chinese officials, period? (end)
