The Nisei Veterans Committee and the Japanese American community will gather to honor fallen veterans at the 67th Annual NVC Memorial Day Program at Lake View Cemetery on Capitol Hill.
Michael Reagan, a combat veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, gave the keynote speech. Reagan is a portrait artist who has drawn more than 2,700 portraits for families who have lost loved ones in either Iraq or Afghanistan. This year’s program will present the Congressional Gold Medal to the Japanese Americans who served this nation during WWII in the 100th Battalion, the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, and the Military Intelligence Service. The Seattle Buddhist Temple’s Boy Scout Troop 252 and Kiyokazu Ota, the Consul General of Japan-Seattle, were also present. (end)
