A scene from “A Boy and the Tree”

Jimmy Zhang
Local Asian American filmmaker Jimmy Zhang’s short film, “The Boy and the Tree,” is an official selection for the 2012 National Film Festival for Talented Youth (NFFTY). The film was selected as one of 225 films from 30 states and more than 20 countries. During his freshman year of college, an interest in Pixar led to a desire to make films. “The Boy and the Tree” is about a boy who grows up in a space, having never left his home world. One day, a supernova forces him to confront the world beyond. The film, part immigration story and part natural disaster story, will be screened at NFFTY’s annual festival, taking place in Seattle from April 26 to 29. (end)
