The Seattle Chinese Post will celebrate its 30th anniversary on April 22. The Seattle Chinese Post was founded by publisher Assunta Ng in 1982.
The Chinese newspaper eventually included an English edition. However, as the English paper began to cover more diverse issues, the English edition was given its own name, Northwest Asian Weekly. To this day, Northwest Asian Weekly is the only weekly newspaper serving Washington’s Asian community. Northwest Asian Weekly remains closely tied to its sister paper, the Seattle Chinese Post, housed under the same roof in the International District. A dinner event commemorating the Northwest Asian Weekly will take place on Oct. 18.
Seattle Chinese Post will have its anniversary dinner on April 22 at House of Hong. Tickets are $39.99; the nines represent longevity in Chinese. Attendees at the event will leave with goodie bags containing donated products from local sponsors, like noodles from Tsue Chong Noodle and Fortune Cookie Company, snacks from Sun Foods Trading Company, samples of lap cheong Chinese sausages from Kam Yen Jan, ginseng from Prince of Peace Enterprise, a surprise gift from the Northwest Asian Weekly, and more. Proceeds from tickets will be donated to the International District Emergency Center, which has worked, despite sometimes being underfunded at times, to preserve the safety of our community. (end)
