Top Contributors to the Asian Community is an annual awards banquet — this means there’s plenty of food! — honoring our community leaders.
The Top Contributor to the Asian Community Awards are presented to individuals who have made a positive difference in the Asian Pacific American community, people who make contributions without expecting anything in return. Of course, an honoree doesn’t have to be Asian American to be a huge contributor to the Asian community, so we honor folks of many different cultural backgrounds.
What goes on at this event?
People get a chance to mingle with and meet the honorees at the beginning of the evening. For the second half of the event, the honorees are called up on stage to share personal stories about their journey to the top.
How do we find our honorees?
We find our honorees with your help, actually. Up to six months before our event on Dec. 2, we gather nominations from the community. From the original pool, the event’s planning committee members arrive at a final set of eight.
How did this event begin?
The Northwest Asian Weekly and Northwest Asian Weekly Foundation have given out this award annually since 1990, but it wasn’t until 2002 that we decided that we were able to hold an actual awards dinner.
What’s next?
Starting next week, we’ll start running our “10 Burning Questions” series featuring each of the honorees to help you get more acquainted with them before the dinner. Keep an eye out!
