On Oct. 26, poet Don Mee Choi was honored at a ceremony in New York City. She was one of 10 young writers awarded the Whiting Writers’ Award of $50,000.
These awards have been given annually since 1985.
Choi is an instructor in adult basic education at Renton Technical College and lives in Seattle. “The Morning News is Exciting” (2010) is her first book.
Choi is Korean American and also translates contemporary Korean women poets. She earned a bachelor’s in Fine Arts and a master’s in Fine Arts from the California Institute for the Arts, and she earned a doctorate in Modern Korean Literature and Translation from Union Institute and University. (end)
