WFA to speak on issues affecting girls and women

October 14, 2011 By Northwest Asian Weekly

Anika Rahman

The Women’s Funding Alliance (WFA) is organizing a morning breakfast to benefit women and girls in the Puget Sound region. The event is called “AMPLIFY! Raise the volume. Up the impact.” It is set for Oct. 20 at Benaroya Hall in downtown Seattle.

This year, WFA is welcoming keynote speaker Anika Rahman, president and CEO of the Ms. Foundation for Women. The Ms. Foundation is the leading national social justice foundation committed to building women’s power to ignite change.

Rahman has spent her life and career fighting for women’s rights and dignity. Her passion took root during childhood, as she watched her grandmother, mother, and aunt struggle against institutionalized sexism in their native Bangladesh.

Prior to her position at the Ms. Foundation, Rahman was president of Americans for the United Nation’s Population Fund (UNFPA), the world’s largest funder of reproductive health programs.

All AMPLIFY! proceeds directly benefit WFA’s work in creating social change for women and girls in the Puget Sound region.  (end)

The free event starts at 7 a.m. with coffee and breakfast. Guests will be encouraged to make a donation during the program. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Register online at www.wfalliance.org.
