A few weeks ago, my Arab friend and I were talking about Ali Tarhouni, former Seattleite and now Libya’s finance minister.
While I am happy that Ali is from our state, has taught at University of Washington’s business school, and is now a big shot with the Libyan government, it did not occur to me before now that there is an Asian angle to him.
“Did you know that his wife is Asian?” my friend asked.
“No,” I said. “Really?”
“Yes, Ali’s wife is Mary Li Tarhouni, an attorney for the Washington Attorney General’s office.”
So, not only is Ali’s wife Asian, she is actually living in our state. Bravo! They’ve been married for 28 years and have two kids. Rumor has it that Ali may become Libya’s next prime minister. One big reason is that he has a clean record and is not associated with corruption. That’s why my intuition urges me to follow his news! (end)
