Northwest Asian Weekly
Several people congratulated the Northwest Asian Weekly this week for blogging about Mayor Mike McGinn’s quick departure at a scheduled meeting with local community and ethnic media on Aug. 23.
My Sept. 1 blog was picked up by the Seattle Times website and on politico.com, a national website on politics. Actually, Seattle Chinese Post (SCP) Editor Rebecca Ip first wrote about it on Aug. 25. SCP is our sister paper, but since it was written in Chinese for immigrants, mainstream journalists were not aware of the story.
Many journalists who attended the event were not happy with the mayor, but didn’t write a word about the incident until I blogged about it first.
When I asked one colleague why, he just shrugged.
Does that mean that reporters are numb to disrespect? I didn’t understand what he meant. ♦
