Joan Stamm’s book, “Heaven and Earth are Flowers: Reflections on Ikebana and Buddhism,” was selected as a 2011 Nautilus Silver Award Winner in the religion and spirituality category.
Stamm lived in Japan in the early 1990s and became interested in Buddhism and traditional Japanese arts. She studied Zen and Tibetan Buddhism upon returning to the States. After 12 years of study, Joan received shihan (formal authorization to teach) from the Saga School of Ikebana headquartered in Kyoto, Japan.
Stamm currently lives on Orcas Island. ♦
