Blog: Flying to China

August 18, 2011 By Northwest Asian Weekly

By Assunta Ng

The Locke family left Seattle with 10 pieces of luggage, a cat, and a dog on Aug. 11, flying Delta Airlines to Beijing. Immediately, a reader who saw him at the SeaTac International Airport called me and asked me why he took Delta instead of Hainan Airlines.

Are you kidding? Ambassador Locke cannot simply fly on any airline. He cannot, on duty, fly on a non-U.S. carrier. It would result in fiery criticism. ♦
