SEATTLE, Wash. — Japanese American and Japan-related organizations in the Pacific Northwest are coming together to support relief and recovery efforts following the devastating earthquakes and tsunamis that struck Japan on March 11.
SeattleJapanRelief is an collaboration of Japanese American and Japan-related cultural, educational, and civic organizations standing together to mobilize funds quickly in support of immediate relief efforts. This website is the first step the coalition is taking in response to the crisis.
On March 12, community leaders in the International District came together and agreed to create the SeattleJapanRelief website to funnel donations towards the Red Cross and Peace Winds America–the Seattle office for a Japanese NGO with local experience in Japanese disaster relief and recovery and a partner of Mercy Corps. Peace Winds America is pledging that 100% of donated funds will go directly to disaster relief.
