Three students and three nonprofits from Seattle were recognized by the Sun Life Rising Star Awards program, which provides scholarships to disadvantaged youth who have shown tremendous commitment to furthering their education and provides grants to nonprofits for serving these youth.
The six award winners from Seattle included Bikram Subba, Sabas Rousseau, and Raphael Diallo. The nonprofit winners were New Futures, Rainier Scholars, and Treehouse. They all attended the Sun Life Rising Star Awards National Summit in Miami.
Subba is a Nepalese student in Burien who was a Bhutanese refugee for 16 years. Today, he volunteers to help other Nepalese students through tutoring and other volunteer work. ♦
