Lately, the community has been fighting over what Chinatown/International District should be called. Frankly, I am tired of this old issue. I use Chinatown and ID somewhat interchangeably.
But no, some people are mad. What they want is either one or the other, depending on who you talk to. It is wise to include both in your language.
When King County Councilmember Joe McDermott spoke at the Gee How Oak Tin dinner, he said he was representing the International District. Well, Joe, you spoke to the wrong crowd. Chinese immigrants want it to be Chinatown. When Seattle City Councilman Bruce Harrell spoke, he emphasized Chinatown/International District, and he got an applause. ♦
