The Seattle Symphony held its third annual Celebrate Asia! concert at Benaroya Hall. Carolyn Kuan conducted the 84-member Seattle Symphony, which performed both Western classical music, Eastern music, and an original composition by Huang Ruo, “The Yellow Earth.”
Performers included Sumi Jo, a soprano, Masayo Ishigure, who played the koto, and Hu Jianbing, who played the sheng. Pre-concert performances included the Chaopraya Ensemble, Rondalya sa Seattle, Trio from Zhenlun Cello Studio, and a Chinese lion dance. James Sun hosted the event. About 2,400 people attended. ♦
