Ambassador Ichiro Fujisaki toured the Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Washington (JCCCW) in Seattle. The tour included seeing his ancestor’s calligraphy work.

Fujisaki’s great-great grandfather, Prince Hirobumi Ito, Japan’s first prime minister, visited Seattle in 1901 and wrote, “Strive for brotherhood among all mankind,” in Japanese on rice paper. His calligraphy has been displayed at the JCCCW’s Japanese Language School ever since.

Fujisaki’s visit also marked his first return to Seattle in almost a half-century. He lived in Seattle’s Magnolia neighborhood from 1960 to 1962 as the son of the former Japanese Consul General Masato Fujisaki. ♦
