If you have been a longtime reader of the Northwest Asian Weekly, you will remember a column called “Dim Sum” during the early 90s. Vera Ing created this column. She also named her book after her column.
“Dim Sum: The Seattle ABC (American Born Chinese) Dream” was launched at her 50th wedding anniversary celebration held at the Wing Luke Asian Museum.
All kinds of people read her columns. One day, a Filipino man stopped me on the street. “Are you Vera Ing?”
When I said no, he was disappointed. He wanted to thank Vera for sharing her perspective as a “community mom.”
When Vera approached us about her column, the first thing she said was, “You don’t have to pay me.” And she did it for five years. The Northwest Asian Weekly is profoundly grateful. ♦
