A few insiders noticed the traffic level in the ID/Chinatown for the Summer Festival last weekend was lower than last year. One reason was that there were many other events going on in and outside the city. Should we change the date or do something else?
I suggest not changing the date. Whatever date you choose in the summer will conflict with another organization’s schedule.
What we need to focus on is more aggressive marketing and developing more exciting programs for kids and adults. Better yet, give out more freebies. Booths that handed out free gifts had lines of people.
Even with a low turnout, we met a lot of new people. Yes, Northwest Asian Weekly had a booth for giving out newspapers and for games to attract kids to play. Some adults and seniors joined in our games. You never know what appeals to people.
Some vendors griped about not making money at their booths. This fair might not be a money-making venture, but it’s an excellent opportunity to support the community, be creative in your business, and connect the community with the outside world. ♦
