When Celia and Larry Lee celebrated their 50th anniversary last Saturday at the Imperial Garden Restaurant, guests noticed their youthful good looks.
The Lees are the parents of Mona Locke, wife of U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke. The Lockes returned to Seattle to celebrate the special occasion.
What are the Lees’ secrets?
1. Raising extraordinary children and having close relationship with them is one. A kid who has gone astray can cause stress and nightmares for parents. Kids who distance themselves from the family break their parents’ heart. The Lees’ children have made them proud. Mona was a television journalist before she married Gary and was instrumental to his victory in his gubernatorial campaign. As first lady of Washington, she co-founded the Foundation for Early Learning as she raised three kids of her own.
2. Both Celia and Larry are blessed with good health. No couple can lead a happy life if one partner gets sick. Both maintain an active lifestyle with grandchildren and friends. They might be in their 70s, but they can dance, swing, and turn like teenagers.
3. They live life to the fullest. They pick the best season to either live in Seattle, Shanghai, or Hainan Island. As Larry said, “There is never a dull moment with Celia.” ♦
