Taiwanese pop band Won Fu is visiting the West Coast this month. The tour is part of a cultural initiative to promote the island’s popular culture overseas via music. In addition to introducing Taiwan’s music to foreign audiences, the Taiwan government sponsors bands to perform abroad in order to further inspire their creativity and growth.

Won Fu will pair up with Seattle band U.S.E (also known as United State Of Electronica) for the visit. The tour began in San Francisco at Cafe Du Nord and wraps up Oct. 31 in Seattle at the Vera Project.

Won-Fu’s music is an eclectic mix of uplifting jangle pop, with tongue-in-cheek wit and retro chic.

Won Fu independently released its self-titled debut album in 2003. In the following year, the band signed with Forward Music, a major recording label in Taiwan. This marked their official entry into Taiwan’s mainstream music market.

In 2004, the album was named one of Taiwan’s “Top Ten Albums of the Year” by the Association of Music Workers. ♦
