On Sept 24, Washington state Attorney General Rob McKenna visited Chinese Consul General Gao Zhansheng of San Francisco in the Asian Weekly’s office. Gao’s friend arranged the meeting himself without prior knowledge of the Asian Weekly. It was a 20-minute introductory meeting. Gao even gave McKenna a gift.
What McKenna didn’t say at the meeting was that, he was going to visit Taiwan this week with members of the National Association of the Attorneys General. Yes, it was an invitation from the Taiwan government. According to McKenna’s office, about 10-16 attorneys are going to meet with high-level Taiwan government officials. The itinerary does not include meeting with the Taiwan President Ma Ying Jeoh. That could change, however.
It’s always nice to be friends of both, isn’t it?
But our attorney general is not the only one being friend of both sides. Lt. Gov. Brad Owen has attended many visible events for both.
