Mayor Greg Nickels got third place in his primary election. He has appointed many Asian Americans as his aides and department heads. He might have the best record in appointing Asian Americans compared to other Seattle mayors. He funded many Asian community projects and has cultivated strong ties in our community.
There are two new guys running ahead of Greg. I don’t know who they are, what they represent, and if they care to reach out to the Asian community at all. Or if they know what they should be doing?
What’s going to happen? For those Asian Americans who did not vote for Greg and are sorry now, well, it’s too late.
But thanks, Greg, for all you have done for us! Eight years is not enough!

Mayor Greg Nickels was always respectful to our community. Speaking of funding Asian projects, he was a huge supporter of the Seattle Chinese Garden before it even broke ground. He was our “United Nations” mayor and genuinely cared about Seattle’s neighborhoods of color. In the primary election, Nickels won in the 37th and 11th Districts. These districts comprise of Southeast Seattle and whose population reflect the diversity of Seattle. He will be missed.
