To the Editor,
It didn’t surprise me that Thai Tom was cited for its fifth health code violation in three years [as reported in issue 32]. I ate there a few weeks ago. I wouldn’t go back even though the food was exceptional. Why? When I asked the waitress and owner to turn down the noisy stereo as a disability accommodation (I am hard of hearing and wear hearing aids, and thus, I could not hear my companion), they refused.
Now as a result of your article, I am going to check the Seattle & King County’s Food Protection Program website at www.decadeonline.com before eating out.
I figure an establishment that won’t follow the health code is likely to not be accommodating toward those with disabilities.
