The Northwest Asian Weekly Foundation decided to throw a dinner to celebrate U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke and wife Mona’s departure to their new life in Washington, D.C.
The organization wants to express its gratitude for all that the Lockes have done for the community and the state.
The event organizers from the foundation also wanted the event to be fun, though organizers have asked that guests dress in business or semi-formal attire. Organizers chose the House of Hong restaurant as the event’s venue because it was a regular fixture when Gary Locke started his career in politics. Locke has thrown many fundraisers at the restaurant.
Organizers have arranged a roast of the Lockes. Yes, to show the new secretary of commerce how much he means to Seattle, community members will be poking fun at him — though it will all be said with the best of intentions.
The event will be held on June 20 at the House of Hong Restaurant. Tickets were previously on sale throughout the month of May, but the intimate dinner is now sold out and tickets are no longer available for purchase, not even at the door.
Individuals that show up without a ticket will unfortunately be turned away.
The foundation is elated at the positive response from communities wishing to celebrate the Lockes’ respective careers in Washington state, but regrets that it wasn’t able to accommodate everyone. ♦
