BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — An Asian American man claims he was assaulted and forced at knifepoint to say, “I love America.” Boulder police is investigating the incident, which is qualified as a bias-motivated crime.
The 22-year-old told police he was walking down the street early Nov. 7 with some friends singing a song from the comedy movie “Team America,” when the group was confronted by another group of men.
Police say one of those in the other group confronted the victim, used a derogatory term to describe his ethnicity and punched him. While holding a knife to the victim’s throat, the suspect punched him again and forced him to affirm his love for America.
Police are offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the suspect, who could face a felony menacing charge. ♦
