Dec. 30: Five commissioners on CAPAA
Local community leaders Sophia Aragon, Debadutta Dash, Jeannie Lee, Faaluaina (Lua) Pritchard, and Albert Shen were appointed (and reappointed, in Pritchard’s case) as commissioners to the Washington State Commission on Asian and Pacific American Affairs (CAPAA) by Gov. Chris Gregoire for three-year terms.
Dec. 29: Lockes with Hollywood elite
U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke and his wife, Mona, were guests at the 32nd annual Kennedy Center Honors, which awards individuals for exemplary lifetime achievement in the performing arts. Mona Locke wore a dress by local designer Luly Yang.
Dec. 14: Yong Sun Lee joins ORB Architects
ORB Architects hired Yong Sun Lee as Designer and Building Information Modeling (BIM) Lead. A graduate of the University of Washington’s master of Architecture program, Yong has eight years of architectural design experience.
Dec. 12: Allen Chinn launches memoir
Allen Chinn launched his book, “A Kung-Fu Master’s Journey,” at Jefferson Community Center’s gym in Seattle. Approximately 200 people came to the event.
Dec. 10: Mayor-elect McGinn announces cabinet members
Former state legislator and transition co-facilitator Kip Tokuda has accepted the position of Acting Director of Human Services. Tokuda will serve in the position until a permanent director is selected.
Nov. 13: Lung Tsuchiya Family and Mina Saudagaran honored as outstanding philanthropists
The Association of Fundraising Professionals (Washington Chapter) chose six outstanding philanthropists to honor at its 21st anniversary National Philanthropy Day luncheon held at the Washington State Convention & Trade Center.
Dec. 11: Consulate General of Japan in Seattle celebrates with holiday party
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the ascension to the throne of the emperor of Japan. It follows on the heels of the 50th wedding anniversary of Japan’s Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko. Dec. 23 is also Akihito’s birthday. In honor of these occasions, the Consulate General of Japan in Seattle celebrated during its annual holiday party. About 250 people attended the event held at the Consulate General of Japan in Seattle’s Queen Anne neighborhood.
Nov. 12: Hyeok Kim named Marshall Memorial Fellow
Hyeok Kim, the executive director of the InterIm Community Development Association (ICDA), was recently named as one of the 54 Marshall Memorial Fellows for 2010 through the German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF). The GMF is a nonpartisan American public policy and grant-making institution dedicated to promoting greater cooperation and understanding between the United States and Europe.
Nov. 16: Tom Ikeda among the six MAF finalists
Ikeda previously worked as the product group general manager at Microsoft. He has received awards including the Humanities Washington Award, NPower Innovation Award for innovative technology by a nonprofit (Densho), and Washington State Historical Society David Douglas Award (Densho) within the past 5 years.
