Japan’s oldest Olympian, at 70, will compete again

By Nesha Starcvic The Associated Press FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — When Hiroshi Hoketsu first went to the Olympics in 1964, he was 23 and the games were in his native Tokyo. Now nearly 71, Hoketsu will be going to the Olympics again this summer — to compete, not to watch.

United States faces Japan in World Cup Final

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — Homare Sawa made up for a huge error by scoring the go-ahead goal and Japan advanced to the World Cup final with a 3-1 victory over Sweden on Wednesday.
