ID restaurants to bring back $2 tasting menu for annual Dragon Fest

July 8, 2011 By Northwest Asian Weekly

The Chinatown-International District Business Improvement Area (CIDBIA) organized the return of the $2 Food Walk at this summer’s Dragon Fest. On July 9 and July 10, 16 of Chinatown-ID’s top culinary destinations will offer up a menu of $2 bites.

Participating restaurants include  Sea Garden, Kaname Izakaya, Harbor City, Oasis Tea Zone, Fu-Lin Ramen House, Loving Hut, Fortuna Café, Phnom Penh Noodle House, Sub-Sand, A Piece of Cake Bakery, Spring Garden, 663 Bistro, and Dim Sum King.

Also in the mix are the ID’s newest fusion-istas: Fuji Bakery — specializing in French/Japanese pastries — as well as World Pizza, who will be turning out exotic international-themed pizzas. Diners who sample more than four participating restaurants will be eligible to enter a drawing for a grand prize.

“People want to check out our restaurants, but there are so many, they often don’t know where to begin,” says Don Blakeney, executive director of the CIDBIA.  “We say, why choose? At Dragon Fest, people will be able to try four or five restaurants for under $10.”

This culinary event coincides with the rebranding of the Chinatown-International District’s premiere summer festival. Dragon Fest (formerly known as the Summer Festival) is the largest Asian cultural event in the Pacific Northwest and continues to attract thousands of people from around the region to enjoy cultural entertainment, an outdoor arts and crafts market, and food from around the world.

“We are really looking forward to this weekend’s activities,” says I-Miun Liu, owner of Oasis Bubble Tea Zone. “It’s a fun event — the last food walk brought hundreds of new faces in to our café to sample our bubble teas.” ♦
