Blog: Be wary of assumptions

March 24, 2011 By Northwest Asian Weekly

The mainstream media has spread rumors about U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke being considered for the Port of Seattle’s CEO job six years ago when he was an attorney at Davis Wright Tremaine, and also that he was considered for the position of University of Washington president this year and last year. These rumors have no truth. I asked Locke if the Port had contacted him. He said, “No.” In fact, he did not even know that he was named as a candidate.

Did the UW contact him?

“No,” he said. “It’s absolutely not true.”

What I don’t understand is why the mainstream media keeps on printing that and even says that Locke is now not available because he has been tapped to be the U.S. Ambassador to China. Incredible assumptions! ♦
