May 2, 2009 By Northwest Asian Weekly

The Dance for World Healing, a group that features multiphonic singing by 10 Tibetan monks, appeared at Kilworth Memorial Chapel at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma on April 11.

The monks from Tibet’s Drepung Loseling Monastery spent three days creating a mandala painting of colored sand, which was then destroyed in a ceremony symbolizing the impermanence of life.

The events coincide with the 50th anniversary of the takeover of Tibet by China’s former chairman Mao Tse-Tung.
