First Lady Michelle Obama addressed 1,500 people in the Cramton Auditorium in Washington, D.C. The event happened the day after Chinese President Hu Jintao arrived for his nation’s state visit. Obama announced her husband’s 100,000 Strong Initiative, designed to increase the number and diversity of American students studying abroad, specifically in China.
Sarah Davis, a seventh grader at Tyee Middle School in Bellevue who studied in China last summer, and her teacher, Rongfen Sun Burford, were among the guests. They were the only ones selected from Washington state. ♦
